Opal Lee, an American activist working to have Juneteenth declared a federal holiday, is a retired teacher, counselor, and educator who was born on October 7, 1926. Her title as the "grandmother of Juneteenth".
President Joe Biden approved Senate Bill S. 475 on June 17, 2021, designating Juneteenth as the eleventh federal holiday.
